United Way announces completion of four-year Community Impact Fund grant funding and $57.5 million in investments

Posted on Thursday, 14 December 2023

United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes has announced strategic investments totaling $57.5 million to approximately 200 nonprofit partner programs across a six-county region during the 2020-2024 grant cycle. This announcement comes as United Way gears up for its 2024 annual campaign and January campaign kickoff, where they will announce their 2023 collective impact and latest public goal.

Program investments were informed by Social Determinants of Health--nonprofit agencies’ critical work addressing the biological, psychological, and social factors that impact every facet of the human experience from prenatal to adulthood. Program allocations are made possible by individual, corporate, foundation, and United Way endowment contributions to United Way’s Community Impact Fund.

“Our entire region is stronger when we remove barriers for our neighbors to thrive,” said Jaime Saunders, president & CEO of United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes. “Thanks to the generous support of our donors and workplace partners, we are proud to be able to make these impactful investments in critical organizations serving our community. A healthy and vibrant community is only possible with on a strong nonprofit sector, and we are committed to championing their work.”

The announcement culminates years of work by United Way staff, its board of directors, and community volunteers, including adopting of a new organizational strategic plan in April. The new three-year plan includes new grant opportunities for 2025 and beyond, to be announced in early 2024.

“Investments in the Community Impact Fund truly center the ‘heart work’ of our engagement and connectivity throughout our six-county region. Future forward we are excited for the depth of the Fund to seed innovative projects, assist with agency-level capacity-building efforts, continue to support summer and year-long programs, and much more. Overall, we recognize the flexibility needed to address the essence of dynamic work occurring throughout our region,” shares Dr. Ashley N. Campbell, chief impact officer of United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes.
